Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the rolling green hills of Oxfordshire, an English county celebrated for its charming market towns, stately homes, and picturesque countryside. As you arrive at Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, you are welcomed into a setting of grand architecture and sweeping landscapes that reflect centuries of history and aristocratic life. Inside the palace, explore the lavishly decorated State Rooms, where priceless collections of tapestries, paintings, and furniture reveal the opulence of the Marlborough legacy. Admire ornate Boulle furniture, Savonniere carpets, and the iconic “Victories” series of tapestries celebrating the Duke of Marlborough’s triumph over the French armies of Louis XIV at the Battle of Blenheim. An audio tour, available via the Blenheim Palace app, offers expert insights into the history and significance of these magnificent rooms and artefacts.

Your visit continues with time in Sir Winston Churchill’s Birth Room, carefully preserved to reflect the period of his birth in 1874. The elegant décor, personal artefacts, and family mementos provide a meaningful glimpse into the early life of the man who would later lead Britain through World War II. Although Churchill did not grow up at the palace, his birth here created a lifelong bond with Blenheim, and he often returned, drawing inspiration from its grandeur and family heritage. Step outdoors to explore the Formal Gardens and expansive parkland surrounding the palace. Wander through the Water Terraces, the Duke’s Private Italian Garden, the Secret Garden, the Churchill Memorial Garden, and the Rose Garden, all reflecting the evolution of landscape design over centuries. Originally designed in a formal style by Henry Wise, the gardens were later transformed in the 18th century by Lancelot “Capability” Brown, whose vision shaped the sweeping lawns and natural beauty across more than 2,000 acres. Walk in Churchill’s footsteps and visit the cherished spot where he proposed to Clementine Hozier.

Later, immerse yourself in the vibrant Butterfly House, located within the historic Walled Garden. Newly renovated for 2024, this tropical haven features butterfly species from around the world, including the Red Lacewing, Emerald Peacock, and Blue Wave, with Zebra Finches adding life among the foliage. Families and the young at heart can also enjoy Blenheim Palace Adventure Play, a hidden world of imagination with bridges, stepping stones, zip lines, slides, and water play, designed to be fun and accessible for explorers of all ages. After a full day of discovery, relaxation, and play, the journey concludes with a return to London, arriving at Victoria Train Station.

Guided Palace State Room tours usually take place daily at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. This tour is included with the place day ticket, starting in the Great Hall. No need to book, just turn up.
