The Edinburgh Ghost Bus Tour is a theatrical 75‑minute journey into the city’s dark past, blending comedy, horror and live storytelling aboard a restored 1960s midnight‑black Routemaster—the last surviving Necropolis Bus once used for funeral processions. Guided by a creepy yet entertaining conductor, you’ll explore Edinburgh’s most haunted corners and hear chilling tales of witches, grave robbers, executions, plague and lingering spirits while passing major landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket, Greyfriars Kirk, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile. Step aboard a classic 1960s Routemaster bus, where your eerie conductor will guide you through Edinburgh’s haunted history as you travel through its shadowy streets. Along the way, you’ll hear chilling tales of witches, grave robbers, plague and the many ghosts said to inhabit Europe’s most haunted city. Blending comedy with horror, this immersive journey is an entertaining way to explore Edinburgh’s unusual and sinister secrets.

The tour showcases Edinburgh’s gruesome past while passing major landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, The New Town, Grassmarket, Greyfriars Kirk, The Old Town, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile. Your conductor will point out locations of historic murders, tortures and executions, and reveal where certain restless spirits are believed to linger. You’ll also learn about infamous figures like Burke and Hare, as well as the tragic fate of hundreds of women accused of witchcraft. With its history as a former funeral bus, you may even encounter a few unexpected surprises onboard.

Enjoy this atmospheric journey aboard the only surviving Necropolis Bus. The Necropolis Bus Company began in the 19th century as a private funeral transport service, carrying the deceased and mourners to their final resting place. Painted in traditional midnight black and adorned with vintage lamps and curtains, the bus carries a haunting legacy. In 1967, the entire fleet was destroyed in a mysterious fire—except for one. The question is: will you make it back?

A brief walk is included as part of the tour.
Buses are classic 1960s Routemasters, which are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
