This guide offers a comprehensive exploration of nearly two thousand years of London's history, led by a knowledgeable local history teacher. The journey highlights more than thirty significant and often underappreciated sites throughout the city, providing a deeper understanding of its rich past. One of the first stops is a hidden gem—a Roman amphitheater buried beneath the modern city streets. This is the largest and best preserved of all the surviving Roman amphitheaters, of which there are said to be around 230. The ruins of these ancient buildings can still be visited throughout what was the Roman Empire.

From here we gaze at the Tower of London, built by William the Conqueror in the wake of his Norman invasion of 1066. We consider its involvement in the development and subjugation of the City of London before reflecting on the stories of those to whom it has, over the centuries, been both a home and a prison. How to reach there?

The starting point is a short walk from St Paul's Cathedral (preferred) or Moorgate station.

From St Paul’s: Head north on Cheapside, continue on St Martin's Le Grand, and turn right onto Gresham Street. Guildhall Yard will be on your left after about 300 meters.

From Moorgate: Walk south on Moorgate towards Moor Place, turn right onto Coleman Street, cross at the zebra crossing, continue on Coleman Street, turn right onto Gresham Street, and walk until you reach Guildhall Yard.

Guests are advised to try not to start or finish the walk close to week day rush hour: 07:30-09:30 and 17:00-19:00.
