Overview

Visit the Lake Kerkini, nestled in the Lithotopos area, stands as one of Greece's top most valuable wetland habitats with the hop on hop off bus tour. Having around 300 bird species and rare animal species, this destination captivates nature enthusiasts. The striking presence of beautiful flamingos and majestic buffalos adds a special charm to this place. With the backdrop of Mount Beles and the verdant Serres valley, Lake Kerkini becomes a paradise for tourists who are nature lovers. The National Park offers an unforgettable boat ride through its serene lake. This experience provides an up-close encounter with the diverse wildlife inhabiting the region.

Itinerary

Kerkini Lake is an absolute stunning place created by building a dam, across a river called Kerkinitis. This makes a giant pool of water, surrounded by small mountains and flat areas. The lake changes its look throughout the year, and lots of different birds visit it during different seasons. When you visit Kerkini Lake, the first cool thing you will see is the dam. At the dam, if you are lucky, you might spot flamingos. Flamingos are these amazing birds that live by the lake all the time, and they are super pretty. Sometimes, their feathers give the water a pinkish hue.

At the dam, you can also do something really exciting - ride a horse! But, make sure to tell the tour organizers beforehand if you want to do this because there is an extra cost of €5 for a 20-minute ride. After that, it is time for a little break with a cup of coffee. Then, the adventure continues to the other side of the lake. Here, you will visit a farm where there are buffalos. You can walk around with them and learn interesting facts about these amazing creatures. Once you have had your buffalo experience, the journey takes you to a village called Vironia. This village has a long history, and you get to enjoy a tasty lunch in a Greek restaurant. What is really cool is that this particular restaurant is where a king and the Prime Minister signed an important agreement that made Greece bigger.

After a delicious meal, it is time to head back to the city of Thessaloniki. On the way back, you will pass by the west side of the lake, giving you one last chance to enjoy its beauty before returning to the city.

Hop-on Hop-off Thessaloniki
As a bonus, the ticket for this tour also includes a 1-day ticket for a special bus in Thessaloniki which is the Hop-on Hop-off Thessaloniki. This bus lets you explore the city easily, and you can get on and off as many times as you want. You will see all the famous places like the White Tower and Ano Poli.

Customers will see and meet the City Sightseeing Thessaloniki staff in or outside of the buses and at the departure/ arrival point Lefkos Pyrgos. 
Guests are reminded to exchange their purchased ticket for their tour ticket with the City Sightseeing staff at Lefkos Pyrgos or the bus driver upon boarding the buses. Please make sure there is the correct City Sightseeing company applicable to your voucher when boarding. 
The tour operates with double-decker buses with a capacity of 70 - 82 passengers.
Complimentary ear phones are provided, or you are welcome to use your own wired earphones with a jack connector

Kerkini Lake Tour:
Tours run every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from April 1st until October 31st.
The tour starts at 8:00 from the “Statue of Venizelos” on Aristotelous Square & Egnatia Street
Audioguide Languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Hebrew, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Bulgarian, Serbian, Romanian.
The bus is not currently running to Ano Poli due to roadworks in the old city centre, but it is only a 15-minute walk from stop 2 and we strongly recommend Ano Poli as a fascinating place to visit.
The date selected at time of booking will be the date of the Day Tour element, and cannot be changed unless the customer calls the local number to check alternative availability.
